A nonpartisan coalition of current and former journalists has formed Press4Democracy to defend freedom of the press against a variety of attacks.

“Press4Democracy exists to defend the First Amendment and to stand in solidarity with the journalists still doing this essential work,” the group’s website says.

“Our coalition of current and former journalists raises its voices when freedom of the press is threatened, when the First Amendment and journalists are under political attack, and when government, corporations and news organizations fail to stand up for press freedoms.”

The effort cites attacks on press freedom through “legal intimidation, legislative interference, political delegitimization, and outright threats to journalists’ safety.” Press4Democracy is led by veteran broadcast journalists Lisa Stark and Ian Cameron. It includes journalists from television, radio, print and digital news media.

Current and former journalists can ask to have their names added to the coalition website through a Google form. The website is Press4Democracy.
