The First Amendment was ratified more than 233 years ago, but its contemporary application continues to have a profound impact on American society.

First Amendment scholar Nadine Strossen, professor of law emerita at New York Law School, will speak about freedom of speech and America’s fundamental freedoms of expression at Middle Tennessee State University on Sept. 23 at 10:20 a.m. at the Keathley University Center.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be hosted by Dr. Frank Lambert and is sponsored by MTSU’s Free Speech Center, Seigenthaler Chair for Excellence in First Amendment Studies, College of Media and Entertainment, and the American Society for News Excellence, as well as Voices for Liberty at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University.

The event will also be streamed live as a webinar.
