Son of Sam Laws Cases

  • Seres v. Lerner (Nev.) (2004)

Seres v. Lerner (Nev. 2004) struck down a Son of Sam law on First Amendment
grounds. The law was designed to prevent criminals from profiting from
their misdeeds.

  • Simon and Schuster v. Members of the New York State Crime Victims Board(1991)

In Simon and Schuster v. New York State Crime Victims Board (1991), the
Supreme Court said that New York’s Son of Sam law violated the First
Amendment.
