Mark E. Byrnes, Ph.D., is the provost of Middle Tennessee State University. He is the longest tenured chief academic officer in any Tennessee public university. He has written many articles and book chapters but is best known for his book James K. Polk: A Biographical Companion. He is a current member of the board for ThinkTennessee, a nonpartisan nonprofit on public policy and was formerly the president for the Tennessee Political Science Association.
