Eugene Volokh is a law professor at University of California Los Angeles and one of the nation’s most prolific First Amendment writers and commentators. He is well known as the founder and co-author of the Volokh Conspiracy, a popular blog on free expression and other legal issues. His areas of commentary include free speech online, First Amendment and harassment laws, expressive association, child custody laws and the First Amendment, crime-facilitating speech, and the First Amendment records of U.S. Supreme Court justices. Justice Clarence Thomas cited his writings on workplace harassment in Avis Rent a Car Systems v. Aguilar (2000). Volokh has published more than 90 law review articles, many of which examine First Amendment issues, and he is the author of the First Amendment textbook “The First Amendment and Related Statutes: Problems, Cases, and Policy Arguments 6th edition” (2016).
