Lawyers can now talk to news media and go on social media about cases they are trying in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, Nashville’s Tennessean reports.

The newspaper said a May 15 decision in that federal court eliminated a rule against attorneys’ speaking publicly about trials in which they are involved.

“The change was the result of a lengthy federal lawsuit filed by the Institute for Justice,” reporter Angele Latham wrote, “on behalf of Nashville civil rights attorney Daniel Horwitz in October 2024.”

An Institute for Justice attorney called the ruling “a huge win for the First Amendment in Middle Tennessee.”
