Nominations for a journalism award recognizing outstanding journalism in defense of First Amendment rights and freedom-of-information principles are now open.
The First Amendment Award, sponsored by the Free Speech Center, is part of the prestigious Poynter Journalism Awards, awarded annually to recognize news media excellence.
“There is no better check on the abuse of government power than our free press,” said Ken Paulson, director of the Free Speech Center. “It’s important that we recognize outstanding journalism that helps preserve and protect our First Amendment freedoms.”
The award, which includes a prize of $1,000, can recognize the work of a single journalist or multiple journalists.
